Itinerary
Day 1 ARRIVE ARUSHA, TANZANIA

On arrival in Arusha Tanzania you are met by private transfer and driven to Arusha National Park and then on to the historic Hatari Lodge. The lodge is the property that John Wayne called home during the filming of Hatari.

Day 2 ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

You are greeted at Hatari and transferred to the airport where you meet your private pilot and board your helicopter.   Fly over the lush forests to the open plains to Tarangire National Park, the quintessence of Old Africa.   On arrival you will be met by your private vehicle and guide.  Tarangire has not only excellent wildlife but also features over 300 bird species!  The intriguing atmosphere seems quite prehistoric with ancient baobab trees, scrub bush and outlines of strangely horned antelopes and tall giraffe.  This area has a very different and magical feel that make it so unique – even without the wildlife, the visit is worthwhile. Fewer tourists visit this park than all the other parks. It is one of the best areas on the Tanzania northern circuit to see elephant.  The wildlife viewing is excellent, with many migratory animals returning in early summer to the only permanent water source in the area – the Tarangire River and its tributaries.

Day 3 TARANGIRE – LAKE EYASI – NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS

This morning continue your explorations of the bush as your helicopter pilot flies you around the Lake Eyasi area and continues across the Ngorongoro Highlands to you spectacular lodge, located on the Crater’s rim.  Private afternoon game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater.  The Ngorongoro Crater, situated 7,500 feet above see level, is the larges unbroken caldera in the world,  Surrounded by very steep walls rising over 2,000 feet above the crater floor, this natural amphitheater covers an area of about 100 square miles and is home for up to 25,000 large mammals.  Nearly half of these animals are zebra and wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, eland, hartebeest and warthog.  Such vast numbers attract plenty of predators; lion and hyena are easily spotted while cheetah and leopard are more elusive. The Ngorongoro Crater is about 12 miles across, the largest, undamaged caldera (collapsed volcano) in the world, with tropical forest extending down several hundred feet from the rim on the outside of the crater.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is without doubt one of the most architecturally spectacular safari lodges in Africa. Steeped in romance, each mud and thatch suite is reminiscent of a bygone era, with the stilted, handcrafted structures adorned in graceful antiques, grand chandeliers and African treasures. The bedroom, sitting room and en suite bathroom boast floor-to-ceiling glass windows, overlooking the magnificent Crater below. Your personal butler will discreetly tend to your every need, bringing you tea in bed, stoking your fireplace and drawing your bath.

Described as Maasai meets Versailles, each extraordinary camp operates independently with its own central living and dining areas and viewing decks. Early settler-style interiors combine silver, gold and ruby colors under banana-leaf ceilings and grass roofs. Beaded chandeliers hang above large gilt mirrors, and antiques, plump cushions, voluptuous raw silk curtains and leather-backed chairs blend harmoniously with African art elements. The domed dining room, with its fireplace, crystal, silver and massive wooden platters, makes every meal at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge a special occasion.

Day 4/5 SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Continue your explorations as your helicopter takes you to the world famous Serengeti National Park.

Internationally renowned for the greatest wildlife spectacle on the planet combined with the lowest concentration of game lodges, the Serengeti National Park is synonymous with low impact/high action game viewing in a landscape untouched since the dawn of time.

The world famous Serengeti National Park (the largest in Tanzania) occupies about 14,763 square kilometers.  The name Serengeti means endless plains and is derived from the Maasai word siringiti.  The park lies in a high plateau between the Ngorongoro Highland and the Kenya/Tanzania border, extending almost to Lake Victoria.  It encompasses the main part of the Serengeti ecosystem.

The most famous features of the Serengeti are the spectacular concentration of animals found nowhere else in the world, as well as the annual wildebeest migration.  This spectacle sees more than one million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras and 300, 000 Thomson’s gazelles trek to new grazing grounds.  The brief population explosion of wildebeest produces over 800,000 calves a day before the migration begins.
As in all ecosystems, the vegetation and types of animals you find are closely correlated.  The principal features of the park are the short and long grass open plains in the southeast, the acacia savannah in the central are, the hilly, more densely wooded central northern section and the extensive woodland and black clay plains, dominated by the central ranges of mountains in the western corridor.  Game viewing is conducted by Klein’s Camp Guides and Vehicles.

Day 6 SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK – LAKE NATRON

Fly from the Serengeti to the Lake Natron area where you private deluxe camp, guide and vehicle will be waiting for you.  Spend your day exploring Lake Natron.  Wild and remote Lake Natron lies in the northeast of Tanzania in between the Ngorongoro Highlands and Serengeti plains and is situated at the base of Africa's only active volcano Oldonyo L'Engai (Mountain of God).  Lake Natron is one of the most alkaline lakes in the world. Home to millions of tiny crustaceans, the lake is a haven for literally thousands of lesser flamingo's and it is one of the most important flamingo breeding grounds on earth. Here it is the landscape rather than the animals that is the attraction - the area around the lake is dry, desolate and hauntingly beautiful.
